The Scarab Lab is an experimental collection of sculptural and wearable art created by American trashion designer Deanna marie Kennedy. Her work pays tribute to the dung beetle of the Scarab family by turning trash into treasure and prioritizing sustainability.
Deanna finds inspiration in the marshlands of central New Jersey where she grew up, among the shores of Puerto Rico where her family originates from, and in between all the sidewalk cracks where grass and flowers grow.
She specializes in welding with plastic waste, hand-crafting natural textiles, and upcycling in order to promote a circular economy. The Scarab Lab imagines the symbiosis between organic and inorganic material as a means to save the planet.
